Larry Nelson with Terry Jones, Kayak 649_ Association for Corporate Growth, Denver brings in founder of Travelocity
enclosure-voice At the 7th Annual Rocky Mountain Corporate Growth Conference Larry sat down with Terrell (Terry) Jones, founder of Travilocity.com to discuss success in turbulent times. Terry understands dealing with unprecedented change and what has to be done to be successful. During the interview he focused on three things, 1) dealing with change and the speed of change; 2) how important innovation is, particularly in large companies. Travelocity began within American Airlines, which is a little rare, ideas don't always flourish in big companies. 3) and then he talked about building digital relationships with your customers. It's not that face-to-face is going away, but if we don't understand that digital connection with the customer, we're not going to have that customer anymore. Terry said, "Travelocity went through unprecedented change in a very short period of time. The Internet is sort of like Darwinism on steroids - everything happens so quickly. We went from 10% commission on our tickets over three years to zero from the airlines - our entire revenue stream was cut out, we had to revolutionize the company." Listen for more sage advice.

Dr. James Chen John Carroll, MD 647_ Winning partnership of a computer scientist and a cardiologist
enclosure-voice David Allen, CU Associate Vice President for Technology Transfer said, "Collaborative cardiac imaging research with a computer scientist and a cardiologist." is what led to winning the University of Colorado's Technology Transfer 'Inventors of the Year, UC Denver' award for Drs. John Carroll and James Chen." Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the United States and in the State of Colorado. Among cardiovascular diseases, the only type that is increasing in number and relative percentage is heart failure. By integrating research and the training of scientists and physicians specializing in heart muscle disease and heart failure, the Institute allows a more efficient and creative approach to the training of future scientists and physicians while markedly enhancing the potential for securing program grants and the ability to integrate training program and research. Larry talked with them on a number of topics including funding and its challenges during these economic times. Their overall scientific goal is to derive a complete understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the development and progression of human myocardial failure and to produce new diagnostic treatment modalities. We need more winning research like theirs.

betty Pierce, President, Secure Network Systemsterry Morreale, Producer Women In IT on w3w3, Senior Engineer, Applied Trust Engineering 648_ Overarching concerns over privacy and how to maintain data records
enclosure-voice Internationally there is the whole problem with harmony and privacy laws - how do we share that information properly while maintaining privacy. And when you outsource a function to another country, what impact does that have on the data they're working with? And of course, ethics is the gray area between legality and morality. But, amazingly, there are some common grounds of harmonization and we focus on the grounds of commonality and go from there. Terry Morreale, producer and director of the Women in IT Channel and senior engineer at Applied Trust talked with Betty Pierce, President, Secure Network Systems about this important issue and other concerns and solutions. "Secure Network Systems was formed here in Colorado, and it's actually been making a lot of inroads nationally with regard to certifications by different federal agencies for what's called "Phipps 201" or the convergence area. We've also worked for the transportation worker identification credential system, Maritime Port - basically the convergence of logical and physical security with identity. Then the overarching concerns over privacy and how to maintain data records so they aren't used for nefarious or incorrect purposes." Listen for more...

enclosure-voice Starting a business in Mexico can easily take two plus months just to get the doors open. If you are going to start doing business in Mexico through an M&A it's a great deal trickier. Judi Sheppard Missett, Founder, Jazzercise 651_ Commitment, passion and fun are drivers for a successful business
enclosure-voice Judi Sheppard Missett, founder of Jazzercise was the opening keynote speaker for the annual Rocky Mountain ACG Conference, 2009. Jazzercise, is the world’s largest dance fitness program. Judy explained, "Jazzercise is the only dance fitness program that’s international, that’s global, and it is a fusion of several things actually, of jazz dance, movements that are simple and easy to follow – anyone can do them, but in addition to those movements is the cardio workout that that includes. We also do muscle strengthening, we work through movements that involve Yoga and Pilates and it is really an all encompassing program because we realize that time is very important to people today, so in 60 minutes you can come into one of our classes and get a little bit of everything. This is our 40th Anniversary year; I started in Chicago in October of 1969." Pat asked, "You mentioned innovation and certainly that is important to any entrepreneur. How did you come up with the idea?" She replied, "I was going to Northwestern University and I was a working professional in the theatre as I had from the age of 14. I was also teaching for a professional dance studio, and I was doing it as though the people in class were going to go on and become professional dancers when in fact, that wasn’t their intent. They would come and go thru the class and not stay. So I interviewed a bunch of them. They said they loved the class...listen for more...
